Ins and outs of Illustration

An illustration is a decoration, interpretation or visual explanation of a text, concept or process, designed for integration in published media, such as posters, flyers, magazines, books, teaching materials, animations, video games, and films. Now comes the magic of illustration, it can sometimes be an essential part in any start-up. A brand with no logo will not be remembered. Having a logo will be one of the main requirements of any product release. Making illustration demand high as ever. It has logistical purposes.

But what makes a good logo?

A logo usually tries to define what the business or a corporation will stand for with just a glimpse of an icon. Having a distinct logo will always be easier to advertise and popularize. Some illustrators take this step higher and make a logo that stands out, and even so at provoking emotions that will be remembered by their clients.
As with most graphics design techniques, the potential is endless. The vastness of creation is not limited when it comes to illustration. It deals with a lot more than logos, it could be the very characters in animation. It could be the imagined digitalized version of any real-life picture.
The illustration technique is very dear to my heart because it was how I designed the graduation attire for my graduation ceremony.
Having your colleague mates all wearing the design you have made is one of the priceless feelings I have felt and I have to give credit where its due, and that being a solid understanding of the powerful graphical design tools that we now have.
It is always blissful to know that what limits your creation isn’t these tools and are instead more bound to how imaginative you can get. That being said, let me demonstrate the possibilities of illustration.

First, you must acquire your picture that you will want to create a visual representation of, it could be anything on your mind. In my case it was our college building. I first had to take raw pictures to grasp an idea of the looks and features of its exterior.

I had to form a complete grasp of the dimensions of these raw pictures before my illustration can come to life. It will seem daunting at first, but always know that illustration is a simplifying technique so that these buildings won’t be suitable for printing, publishing just yet. So know that the direct product of illustration will look something unappealing at first, before the suitable manipulation prior to the end product.

There are countless programs that have a basic illustrative effect. Adobe Illustrator being one of the most prominent names. Remember that any of the picture will come out flattened. This will release a lot of the confusion users could encounter in the beginning. Here is what I have had ready before the multiple edits I will still have to make.

It looks good at this step, but nothing more. It will always need more editing on your end to obtain your desired outcome.

After multiple re-touches and various other forms of image manipulation using Adobe Photoshop. I had to complete my imagined shirt that will be worn by my entire college. After countless trials and errors (which is very natural) I was able to obtain this.
